It’s been a while hasn’t it?
I haven’t been blogging in a fair few years, but I thought with some upcoming life changes (all good) now would be a good opportunity to to kick things off again, and get back up on that horse. So, what’s changing?
Well, firstly, the wife and I will be welcoming (all going well) another little Higgins into the world in the new year, giving our son the chance to be a big brother. Being a dad to our little boy has undoubtedly been the best experience of my life so far, so bring on the next one!
Next up, I’m soon to be leaving IBM, I’ll be one of many ex-IBMers – I wonder if there’s a special noun for that? There should be. Anyway, from the middle of September I’ll be looking to do something else after having a wee break in between jobs.
What do you want to do next, I hear you cry. That’s a very good question, and something I’ve been giving a lot of thought. Many folks say everyone should follow their dreams – I’d love to, but I’m afraid being the first combined Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship winning Captain of Celtic and Scotland while Le Mans winning Sony World Photography Award winner and Astronaut might be a bit beyond me now, so I may need to reign that in a bit. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some great people in some great organisations and teams in my career so far, and I’ve mainly been working in and with software developers so it makes sense to continue doing something I love. It’s been a while since I was a full-time developer, but I’m hoping with some hard work, support and luck I’ll be able to get myself back into something I really enjoy.
This blog will focus on my journey back into a dev role as well as notes on life, the universe and everything else but you can be sure there will be posts on: (in no particular order)…
- Photography – yes, another techy with a camera, just what the internet needs
- Software Development – C# and mainly the MS Stack
- The Internet of Things – Hey, I’ve been living this particular dream for the last couple of years so it would be rude not to
- Football – mainly Scottish
- Other sports – Motor Racing, Tennis, NFL, Cricket
- TV & Movies
- Food & Drink
- Is there anything else?
- The trials and tribulations of running an old TVR.
If you’re still with me, good on you!
Until next time… Be seeing you.
Oh, what was the Soup Dragons reference all about? I tweeted this link this morning – great song about being Free. I prefer this to the Stones original.
The final countdown has begun, soon I’ll be…
